Get Past an Awkward First Date

First dates can be so excruciating. Most of the time it’s someone you don’t know and you fidget and struggle to make conversation. Both people have an internal dialog going where they’re overthinking everything and hypersensitive to every minute movement and sound. If an alien were observing a first date, they’re pretty much be seeing two neurotic chihuahuas shivering in agony. Of course that’s all an exaggeration and not all first dates are like that. Sometimes they are magical and unforgettable, especially if you met on phone chat lines for sex, because you’ll already know each other a bit. If you find yourself in an awkward first date, don’t worry, it’s not necessarily a last date and you may even be able to save it. The best advice is to just give in to the fear and loathing. Let it consume you and become one with it. Become at peace with yourself. Before that point of no return, just relax…really relax. Just yourself and say and do the things that your inner voice is telling you not to, within reason of course. Be a nerd or laugh about stupid things. Make fun of yourself and the situation or simply open up and be honest about who you really are. If none of those things work, you have two options, be honest and end the date or go back to the previous suggestion and stop caring. Of course, be nice and considerate, but pull out the inner nihilist and realize none of it matters. There will be those odd times where in the moment someone sees you release the bonds of insecurity and take hold of life and stare back stone cold, grinning with pleasure, they will, without a thought, mesmerized, join you and the night will be a good ending to a date that started on a phonesex chat line. No matter what happens, it’s not the end of the world.
